On September 19th, over 60 MBMS students headed down to the Manhattan Beach Pier to roll up their sleeves for Coastal Cleanup Day. Sponsored by the MBMS ASB, the turnout was all about supporting the MB Roundhouse Aquarium.
The event was hosted by the Roundhouse Aquarium alongside Heal the Bay and the California Coastal Commission. After grabbing supplies and a quick safety briefing on the north side of the beach, students spent the morning combing the sand for trash and microplastics.
They didn't just pick up litter, though—they also acted as student scientists! From 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the crew tracked every piece of debris on data cards, turning in their tally sheets and full buckets at the weigh station before noon.
It was an awesome showing by MBMS students, proving how much impact local youth can have on keeping our South Bay beaches clean and protecting marine life.
