MBMS Artist

Congratulations to Manhattan Beach Middle School eighth grader Catalina Godard for being named one of three Grand Prize winners in the annual “Being Water Wise Is…” Student Art Contest, an impressive recognition celebrating both creativity and environmental stewardship.

Catalina’s artwork was selected from nearly 400 submissions from student artists across the South Bay and neighboring communities, including Carson, Culver City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. The contest encourages students to creatively explore the importance of water conservation and sustainability through original artwork.

After first being selected as one of just 15 finalists, Catalina received an Apple iPad, a certificate signed by a West Basin Director, and a commemorative gift package. Following public voting and final judging, Catalina was ultimately named one of only three Grand Prize winners across all grade levels. As part of the recognition, she also received an Apple Pencil and an Apple Store gift card.

Catalina completed her award-winning project in Mrs. Cavallo’s eighth grade science class, where students explored environmental topics and sustainability through creative expression. As a Grand Prize winner, Catalina’s artwork now advances to the regional competition for an opportunity to be featured in the 2027 Student Art Calendar.

This accomplishment highlights the many ways MBMS students combine creativity, critical thinking, and environmental awareness to make meaningful connections between classroom learning and real-world issues.

Congratulations to Catalina on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to Mrs. Cavallo for continuing to foster innovation, creativity, and environmental stewardship in the classroom.
